Resounding BNP Success..........Here In Leigh

Paul and myself at the interval......

A resounding success was indeed the outcome of Thursday evening's inaugural meeting for the Leigh arm of the Wigan and Leigh British National Party group!

After months of searching (primarily done by my friend Chris) we eventually found the ideal location to hold Leigh's first ever BNP meeting. I was invited down to meet the owner and along with Chris to dispel any concerns that the owner may have in holding a British National Party meeting at his venue. It was soon decided that no concerns should or could be attributed to holding such a meeting here and the date was decided! 13th November 2008!

So, the past few weeks in the run up to Thursday's inaugural meeting, Chris and myself had been very busy indeed in spreading the news and organising the speakers (Dr Charles Mather and Dr Paul Rimmer) and along with my colleagues over in Wigan who also put details of the meeting on their own blog spot, a great turnout was envisaged?

So, the venue is set, the jack bait's been sorted, the bar staff confirmed, speakers briefed and BNP merchandise gathered to sell. All we needed now was for the 'fed up' patriots to attend!!

And boy! Did they attend!! On a wet and windy November evening they arrived in their droves!!

Earlier on in the day, I'd had a good few calls from disgruntled friends and family apologising for not being able to attend due to unforseen circumstances, and at one stage due to the weather I was a little concerned that it may not attract the numbers I/we expected! No such worries!

Although, I was not my usual punctual self in arriving at the meeting at the time that I said I would, but, this due to picking up a delayed Dr Paul Rimmer from Newton-le-Willows train station (Leigh is the largest town in Britain (or maybe the second largest) not to have a railway station!) after his first train was cancelled due to a "waterlogged" track near his home in Liverpool!

Anyway, we arrived at the meeting venue with around 5 minutes to spare before the 8pm (prompt) time I'd set, although the meeting was to be in the upstairs function room I did expect to see a number of attendee's to be in the downstairs bar, I did see three of my friends here and they asked how many supporters were upstairs, I told them I'd no idea as I'd just arrived with Paul, due to the train delay. I got a drink and went upstairs to be met with an absolutely full house of patriotic Brits, the Union flags were already out and the place was set and buzzing! The patriotic goosebumps emerged in force.

I hadn't prepared myself to speak, only to welcome everyone and introduce our guest speakers, but, through a little bit of persuasion I did speak for around 5 minutes or so. Although, it can be very nerve wracking up there, and especially with one of my son's and other family and friends out in the audience, I hopefully managed to get across my passion of joining the British National Party and to highlight that you are not alone in your thoughts of the decay of our once proud and British to the core belief. I also included that in the past, of how I'd been out leafletting on my own at times in and around the Leigh South ward were I stood in the council elections last May, and how my friend Chris adorned his estate car bearing VOTE BNP in the run-up to the election date, but, I did fail to recall on Thursday evening a particular memory of how my mate Chris managed to obtain a loud-hailer in order to air our views louder in public from a very, very unlikely source indeed (LOL!) Maybe, it was for the best or me being wise that I didn't mention that after all; if you know what I mean? I also spoke of the very first time that I went active with the BNP and leafletted in Burnley a good number of years ago and how it spurred me on to do more to save this wonderful town, country and nation of ours!

I also mentioned that if I can get just short of 500 votes and 15% of the votes cast in Leigh South with only two activists, just think what we can do with maybe four, six or eight activists even? The world is your lobsters (as Peter Kay would say!)

I do recall vaguely getting some applause, but, being a little bit nervous and with the added (unwarranted) intrepidness of the evenings proceedings, the mind was a little oblivious to it all! Not since I tread the boards as a youngster, playing Jesus in the production of Jesus Folk or as Herbert Pringle (The Parkeeper) in my junior school days had I held the stage like that before, and to be truthful I think I enjoyed it!

It was now Charles's time to take the floor and although a very, very good friend of mine I never tire of hearing him speak. A great appreciative audience welcomed Charles and he delivered a perfect speech that was greatly received by the 60 or so there. I will not go into detail of his speech or over emphasis how fantastic it was, as you can obtain a DVD of the evenings proceedings if you either drop me a messge or pop over to here:
http://wiganbnp.blogspot.com/ and give him a call or leave a message for Charles himself. Charles is currently at the BNP conference in Blackpool of which I should also be attending; unfortunately I am sat here in my sleeping bag for warmth, a lemsip at my side and a great big box of tissues to keep the nose droplets from dampening the keyboard!

Live coverage of the BNP Conference can be viewed here:http://bnp.org.uk/2008/11/conference-2008-live/

Anyway, back to the meeting, and after Charles's piece, it was now time for a break, and for some to refill their glasses, stretch their legs etc. and to get stuck into the jack bait on offer which was supplied free of charge I may add, by the very kind landlord, which was a tradional bowl of Leythers "lobby," with bread rolls and addionally some lovely local pasties to boot!

Merchandise sales went through the roof, membership forms snapped up, names and addresses exchanged, you really couldn't have asked at this stage for a better inaugaral British National Party meeting here in Leigh.

It was now time after everyone had been fed and watered to introduce Dr Paul Rimmer, I think it was a little embarrassable for Paul with my over exuberant adulation of his talks and that of being a master speaker on the BNP North West and North Wales circuit! And as always he delivered and Paul had the audience spellbound with his passion, knowledge and love of one's country and nation as a whole! Exposing the evil that opperates against the indigenous inhabitants and someone whom quite rightly brought to the audience's attention of the British National Party's newest publication of "Racism Cuts Both Ways." For those attending who didn't exactly know to what exent this country is being ruined and decieved by the evil War Pigs in power, this was quite rightly a shocking moment of the evening without doubt!

(Again, please leave a message if you would like a copy of the evenings events.)

We offered a questions and answers session, but I think those who had any doubt to question the credibility of supporting the British National Party, had all those questions dispelled by the brilliance of Charles and Paul earlier.

It was way, way past eleven o'clock? before I managed to leave the venue after the many discussions, meeting old and new friends (especially, the chap who made the long journey from Runcorn to attend!) exchanging phone numbers for future meetings, the thank you's and "when's the next meeting!!" And we were even offered a far larger venue to hold these future meetings in which maybe just too big .............or is it?? At the response on this particular night, it may just be an ideal alternative?

Friends from Salford, Wigan and St.Helens and other surrounding areas were all very gracious in their appreciation of the effort put in by both Chris and myself and amazed at the turn-out for a first BNP meeting here in Leigh! But, it's neither me nor Chris who deserve the praise, it's all those who turned up, the speakers on the night who made it happen for us including the landlord ! We did the easy bit!

A massive thank you to you all!!

The mile or so walk home in the wind and rain without a coat ( I'd left it in the car with the missus who took a few of our new friends and supporters home) at silly o'clock (especially, when I'm up for work at 5-45 am) was fantastic!

I can't wait to do it again!!

Thank you.

Gary
