"With our isolation as an island, our triumphant navy and a forerunner in industry allowed us to evolve and blossom like no other nation, allowing us the freedom to nuture our own laws and pen our own literature, thus, giving us the confidence to carry them overseas, in the honour of our king or queen who embodied not only what it was we were bringing, but also what remained at home.
It never fails to amaze me that when talking with certain individuals, many are often offended by the very idea of patriotism! Maybe, they just don't understand the meaning. Patriotism to me, means love of ones country, and we are honoured and blessed to reside in a country we adore. I want my children to love their country too, to care and to know just who they are and how they got here, to have the warmth, encouragement and inspiration, the stability and the want of belonging, identity and protection that such a country and nation of ours affords. I know this will make them strong in the struggle ahead!"
The words above are not entirely my own, I did actually read something very much along these lines in a book (just hoping I don't get done for a 'Raj Persaud') that I was given a couple of years ago. And if anyone can guess the book title, being a Leyther, I will offer a pint of 'lobby' and 'beetroot' chaser to the first correct entrant!
